Three months since my last race. After another joyless, weekday bacchanal, I survey the mess. My recovery weeks have slipped into months. Without a goal, without a plan, I am sinking into a familiar autumn malaise. My watch has noticed (detraining!) and so has my scale. How long will this continue? I was only able to commit to the discipline and demands of the last challenge by knowing the training schedule would eventually end.
The kids, job, partner and every other personal pursuit suffer enough neglict. I'm getting older, and my fitness can never be what it was. Why sacrifice my treasured time to achieve mediocre results in a race nobody cares about?
Be balanced, be basic
